World-Class Wing Shooting
James River Outfitters is located in the heart of the James River “Prairie Pothole Region” in South Dakota. It is also near the Sand Lake National Wildlife Refuge. The duck hunting that James River Outfitters offers is some of the finest in the country with a wide variety of species that include pintails, mallards, widgeon, gadwalls, green-wing teal, blue-wing teal, wood ducks, shovelers, and redheads. The duck hunting is done over water and in cut cornfields. The waterfowl season opens the last Saturday in September and is open until late November.
James River Outfitters also offers some of the finest ringneck pheasant hunting. You will hunt over fields of corn, sunflowers, and CRP. A preserve is also available to our clients that arrive prior to the statewide pheasant opening. Professionally trained dogs assist in the hunt or feel free to bring along your favorite hunting companion.
A typical day consists of an early morning duck hunt, an afternoon pheasant hunt, and in the rare case a chance to fill your waterfowl limit with an evening duck hunt. Whether you are a hard-core hunter or someone who just needs to get away, the lodge and staff will try to exceed every expectation.
